Troubleshooting MikroTik Router Proxy Configuration

You may have just bought a Mikrotik RB1100AHx2, or maybe you're considering purchasing one and want to know how to configure it. Either way, you've come to the right place! In this post, we'll walk you through the steps to configure your Mikrotik RB1100AHx2, so you can get the most out of your investment.

Mikrotik RB1100AHx2

Step 1: Access the Router

To configure your Mikrotik RB1100AHx2, the first step is to access the router. You can do this by opening your web browser and entering the default IP address of the router, which is usually 192.168.88.1.

Step 2: Change the Default Password

It's important to change the default password that comes with your router, as it's often easy for hackers to find out. To change the password, go to the Password tab and enter the new password twice. Make sure it's a strong and unique password.

Step 3: Set the Time Zone

Make sure you set the correct time zone, as this will affect the accuracy of your router's clock. Go to the System tab and click on the Time Zone button. Choose the correct time zone from the list and click Apply.

Step 4: Configure the WAN Ports

The WAN (Wide Area Network) ports are used to connect your router to the internet. To configure the WAN ports, go to the IP tab and click on the Addresses button. Click the + button to add a new address, and enter the IP address and subnet mask provided by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). You'll also need to configure the gateway and DNS (Domain Name System) servers provided by your ISP.

Step 5: Configure the LAN Ports

The LAN (Local Area Network) ports are used to connect your devices to the router. To configure the LAN ports, go to the IP tab and click on the Addresses button. Click the + button to add a new address, and enter the IP address and subnet mask for your LAN. You can leave the gateway and DNS fields blank, as the router is acting as the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server for your LAN.

Step 6: Enable DHCP

DHCP is a protocol used to automatically assign IP addresses to devices on your LAN. To enable DHCP, go to the IP tab and click on the DHCP Server button. Choose the name of your LAN interface from the drop-down menu, and configure the IP pool and lease time for your LAN.

Step 7: Configure Firewall Rules

The firewall is used to protect your network from unauthorized access and attacks. To configure firewall rules, go to the IP tab and click on the Firewall button. Click the + button to add a new rule, and configure the source and destination addresses and ports, as well as the action to be taken for the traffic.

Step 8: Configure NAT

NAT (Network Address Translation) is a method used to map public IP addresses to private IP addresses. To configure NAT, go to the IP tab and click on the Firewall button. Click on the NAT tab, and then click the + button to add a new rule. Configure the source and destination addresses and ports, as well as the action to be taken for the traffic.

Step 9: Configure VPN

VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a method used to create a secure connection between your devices and the internet. To configure VPN, go to the PPP tab and click on the Profiles button. Click the + button to add a new profile, and choose the type of VPN you want to use (PPTP, L2TP, or IKEv2). Then, enter the necessary information (such as username and password) for your VPN connection.

Step 10: Configure Wireless Networks (Optional)

If you want to use your Mikrotik RB1100AHx2 as a wireless access point, you can configure one or more wireless networks. To configure wireless networks, go to the Wireless tab and click on the Interfaces button. Click the + button to add a new interface, and choose the wireless mode and security settings you want to use.

By following these steps, you should now have a fully configured Mikrotik RB1100AHx2 that's ready to use. Remember to keep your router's firmware up to date, and regularly check your firewall rules and other security settings to ensure maximum protection for your network.
