Things you will need:

Before we get started, you'll need to have the following things:

  • A MikroTik RB750 router
  • A computer to connect to the MikroTik router
  • A stable internet connection
  • Your MikroTik's MAC address
  • A VPN username and password

Setting up the VPN server:

Follow the following steps:

  1. Log in to your MikroTik Router using your internet browser. Enter the IP address of your router into the address bar and press Enter.
  2. Click on "PPP" from the menu on the left and select "PPTP Server".
  3. Click the "+" button to create a new profile.
  4. A new window will appear, enter your desired "Name" for the Profile. For "Local address", select the MikroTik's WAN address.
  5. Under "Remote Address", enter the range of IP addresses that you want to allocate for your VPN clients.
  6. Set the "Encryption" method to "Require MschapV2".
  7. In the "Authentication" settings, set the "Default Profile" to the name of the profile that you created in step 3.
  8. Click on the "Secrets" tab and click the "+" button to create a new user.
  9. Enter a username and password for your VPN client. Select the profile that you created earlier as the "Remote address".
  10. Click on the "IP" tab from the menu on the left and select "Firewall".
  11. Create a new rule by clicking the "+" button at the top of the page.
  12. Set the "Chain" to "input".
  13. Select "Protocol" as "TCP".
  14. Set the "Dst. Port" to "1723".
  15. Click on the "Action" tab. Select "Dst. Nat", and enter the "to addresses" as your WAN IP address.
  16. Click "OK" to save the new rule.
  17. Lastly, click on the "Action" tab and select "Accept" to save the Firewall configuration.
  18. You have now successfully setup a VPN server using MikroTik RB750 router!

Connecting to the VPN server:

Now that you have created a VPN server, it's time to connect to it. Here's how:

  1. On your computer, click on the "Network" icon from the system tray and select "Network and Sharing Center" from the context menu.
  2. Click on "Set up a new connection or network".
  3. Select "Connect to a workplace" and click "Next".
  4. Select "Use my Internet connection (VPN)".
  5. Type in the WAN IP address of your router in the "Internet address" field.
  6. Enter your VPN username and password in the corresponding fields.
  7. Click "Connect" to establish the connection.

After following the above steps, you should now be able to enjoy a secure internet connection whenever you use the VPN to access the internet.
