MikroTik Router VLAN Configuration Simplified Guide
Are you tired of managing a chaotic network? Do you want to improve the efficiency and security of your network? Then, you need to create VLANs on your Mikrotik device.

VLAN stands for Virtual Local Area Network. It is a common technique used by IT professionals to segment a network into multiple virtual networks. These virtual networks are isolated from each other, which enhances network security, reduce network collisions, provide better network traffic management, and improve overall network performance.
If you are ready to harness the power of VLANs on your Mikrotik device, then follow these steps:
Step 1: Log in to your Mikrotik device
The first step you need to do is to log in to your Mikrotik device. Open a web browser, type the IP address of your Mikrotik device, and enter your login credentials.
Step 2: Create a bridge interface
Now, you need to create a bridge interface for your VLANs. A bridge interface is like a hub that connects multiple VLANs and manages their traffic.
- Select the Bridge tab on the left-hand side of the screen
- Click on the Plus (+) icon to create a new bridge
- Enter a name for your bridge interface in the Name field
- Choose the ports that you want to add to the bridge by clicking on the Ports tab and selecting the ports
- Click on Apply and then OK
Step 3: Create a VLAN interface
Now, you need to create a VLAN interface that will be attached to the bridge you created in Step 2. This interface will allow you to configure VLANs on your Mikrotik device.
- Select the VLAN tab on the left-hand side of the screen
- Click on the Plus (+) icon to create a new VLAN interface
- Enter a name for your VLAN interface in the Name field
- Enter the VLAN ID in the VLAN ID field
- Choose the bridge that you created in Step 2 in the Bridge drop-down menu
- Click on Apply and then OK
Step 4: Configure the VLAN interface
Now, you can configure your VLAN interface to set up your new VLANs. You can add and remove VLANs, assign IP addresses, and manage network traffic.
- Select the VLANs tab on the left-hand side of the screen
- Click on the Plus (+) icon to add a new VLAN
- Enter a name for your VLAN in the Name field
- Enter the VLAN ID in the VLAN ID field
- Click on Apply and then OK
- To remove a VLAN, select the VLAN from the list and click on the Minus (-) icon
- Assign IP addresses to your VLANs by selecting the IP tab and entering the IP addresses
- Manage network traffic by selecting the Firewall tab and creating rules to allow or block traffic
Congratulations! You have successfully created VLANs on your Mikrotik device. You can now enjoy better network security, improved network performance, and efficient network traffic management.
