Mikrotik RouterOS VPN setup tutorial

Okay, so let's get started. Here is what you need to do:

  1. First things first, open up your Mikrotik RouterOS interface and navigate to "IP" tab followed by "Services".
  2. Once you're in "Services", click on "OVPN Server" and then select "Enable".
  3. Next up, click on the "Certificate" tab and generate a new certificate by clicking on "Add". Enter a name for your new certificate and click on "Generate"
  4. Now go back to the "OVPN Server" tab and select the new certificate you just created from the dropdown menu.
  5. Set up a new user account by navigating to "PPP" and then selecting "Secrets". Here, click on "Add" and then fill in the necessary details: username, password, and profile. Make sure to select "OVPN" as the "Service".
  6. Next up, you will need to set up a NAT rule to allow VPN traffic to pass through your router. Head to "IP" tab and select "Firewall". Then, click on "NAT" and "Add new". Select "srcnat" as the chain and choose "OVPN" as the outinterface. Now enter "192.168.99.0/24" as the source address and click on "Action". Here, select "masquerade" and hit "OK".
  7. Now that your NAT rule is set up, it's time to configure the VPN client. Open up the client interface and enter the IP address of your Mikrotik RouterOS in the "Server Address" field. Then, enter the username and password that you created earlier and hit "Connect".
  8. Voila! You should now be successfully connected to your VPN.

Well, what do you know! Setting up a VPN connection on your Mikrotik RouterOS wasn't all that difficult now, was it? Just follow these simple steps and you'll be good to go. Happy browsing!
